Welcome to Divyesh's Voice!
Sharing My Journey as a Nonspeaking Autistic Student
My name is Divyesh, and I have autism and apraxia. I have been spelling about my experiences as a nonspeaking autistic since I gained the ability to do so. I do not let autism define me, but it affects the way I communicate and interact with others. My communication did not come easy, but rather, through years of hard work. I write about my experiences through the entirety of my journey. From my days without communication, to my current endeavors and goals. From being presumed incompetent, to my current challenges as a third-year college student. From feeling isolated, to being part of a community that uplifts and supports me. From those who fought for me, to my advocation for others. From learning to spell my first word on a letterboard, to practicing independent typing. Through the highs and the lows and everything in between, I spell because I know my words are important. I know that the words of other spellers have had a major impact on me. Our words can move mountains if they find the right people. No matter where you are in your own journey, I hope you can read my words and find them useful. I am Divyesh, and this is my voice.
